Lately I have been thinking about weaning Hannah from her most beloved "mi-mi". Was your little one attached to their binky? How did you get rid of it? When did you get rid of it?
Madeleine was so attached to her binky and with our crazy life as of late I just said forget it, I'll deal with it later (along with potty training) and was happy she only had it at night and for her nap. A couple weeks ago I noticed then every time I woudl check on her she didn't ahve it in. Turns out she had bit through the end of it and had self-weaned. Moral of the story - just don't buy a new one! hahaha. She still asks for it going ot bed and holds it in her had which I am just fine with. So we're not fully there yet but close - and no thanks to any planning or consious intervention on my part. however it seems the 'snipping hte end of it' method has some truth to it. (sorry for the longest comment ever)
So, my advice would be just give it to her at night for a while. If you are not already doing so. And ten after a while, just quick like a bandaid. I had to do that with Luke and his beloved blanket. We went on vacation once and I "forgot" to bring it. It's easier to be firm about it if you can't give in(even if you want to). :)I love that pic of Hannah BTW. She is SO adorable!!! Good luck!!
My oldest is the only one of my kids who would even take a binky, but I remember that we started giving it to her just at nap and bedtime, and then after a bit we cut it back to just at bedtime, before eventually just not giving it to her. There were a couple of whiny nights, but once she realized we werent' giving it back she adapted.
Sorry I'm dominating the conversation on FB. haha I know I could get him used to being without it over the move, but frankly, I don't want to travel across country without it.....Or maybe I do....I don't know!! haha Oh, the anxiety. Once I do figure it out though, I want to try snipping the end off. Maybe that'll work for Braden.
We did different things for different kids. With Livi we slowly weaned her off it. Cutting the tip of the binky didn't work for her or me. With SPencer, we just did it cold turkey one night and he screamed and screamed, but it was over. Do what works for you! Good luck..and Hannah isn't too old to have it still..my kids were 2.5!
I am doing this very thing with Tate as we speak! He is such a binkie boy and now we are down to naptimes. (Praise the Land!!) I did slowly, at first he didn't have it during the day at all. He would just have it for naps and bedtime. Now we are just down to naps, I make sure his bedtime routine is set and that helps him come down from the day and doesn't need it to fall asleep. When he is in bed at night I give him a few books to look at and he usually falls asleep looking at those instead of needing his binkie. But what has really worked for Tate is mostly out of sight out of mind. Do what works for you and Hannah the best, you might have to do a little bit of trial and error but it'll all work out! :)
I don't even feel like I should comment cause I don't have a lot of experience but we just did it cold turkey. We snipped the tips. Then she felt like it was "her" choice to give it up. She wasn't a big fan of them after we snipped them. She's hold it for a minute, put it in her mouth then realize she couldn't suck it so she'd put it down again. We left them out for a couple of days then threw them away cause she wasn't interested in them. Snipping was better too cause then the 1st night I couldn't give in and give it back cause it wouldn't have worked. Good luck when you decide to do it, it won't be that bad. Maybe for like an hour! ;)
oh my! garrett is getting attached to his binky, too! we are hopefully going to get him off of it by 18-20 months and i was told to just snip the nipple off so they don't have anything to suck on....good luck! or take all of her binkies, take them and her to the trash and let her see you throw them away so she knows that they are gone for good! :)
When Parker was about two he would get mad and throw the binky as a way to "punish" us for not giving him what he wanted. Then we would rampantly scourge to find it like idiots. I think it really entertained him and he definitely felt the power that the binky gave him! One day we were out walking and he threw a big tantrum, and of course whoosh goes the binky onto the grass. I finally had enough of it, so I just kept walking and told him the binky was lost. He cried for like twenty minutes for me to go get it, but I told him I couldn't find it because he threw it. Rude? I don't know. But, still he would look out the window for about two weeks and occasionally say, "Binky's lost, Parker throw it!" But now he will see an old picture of him with it in his mouth, and he doesn't even remember what to call it! He got over it really fast. Hope yours works out a lot easier!!!
Luckily, Colette never liked them, and I didn't push it on her. She sucks her bottom lip a little bit, but not raw or anything. So, they learn really quickly how to self soothe themselves.
