On Saturday night I asked Connel to go on a date with me. Ever since I saw an idea on The Dating Divas blog for a bookstore date night*, I've wanted to use it. I felt like we were getting stuck in a rut with the old dinner and a movie routine. It was fun to change things up a bit and do something where we could walk around, talk and have fun getting to know each other a little better. My husband does not really like to read that much, but I still thought he might still like this idea and I was right. Well, at least I think so, because he told me he had fun!
The first thing we did was go to the cookbook section. We were each supposed to find a recipe that looked yummy and that would be a fun one to make together. I guess Connel had a "picky palate" that night because he couldn't find anything, but I found one in the book "Guy Fieri Food: Cookin' It, Livin' It, Lovin' It". In fact almost every recipe in this book looked really yummy!
Penne with Cajun Hot Links and Chipotle Shrimp...Yum! |
Then we moved into the Joke book section. We found that this was a little hard because most of the joke books were ADULT joke books. We found a regular joke book and read some funny "yo mamma" jokes, but then we found a little "What would you rather?" book and it was way better! If you do this date, you might want to go to the kid's joke book section to find more "appropriate" jokes.
Would you rather have eyeballs on your palms or detachable ears? |
After that we went to the travel book section. We stayed there for the majority of the time looking and dreaming about where we would go and what we would see. He decided on the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean and I chose Hawaii. Looks like we are both dreaming of an island vacay!

After that we were kind of done. We didn't do the Poems or the Quiz from a Magazine but we did go and find a children's book that we used to love. Ours were not so "little" children books. I found "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" I remember checking these books out from the school library ALL. THE. TIME. And Connel found a Magic Eye book. We got dizzy trying to look at all the pics in that one!
I read Connel the story of "The Big Toe". He was so scared. ;) |
Harry Potter Magic Eye is definitely not the best available. |
After that we decided to go walk around the outdoor mall and get some ice cream. Then we went home to relieve our babysitter and watch the movie "The Last Song". We both liked it. Our favorite character was the little brother. He pretty much made the whole show worth watching. :) I didn't realize until afterwards that I had stayed with the "theme" of the night and watched a movie that was based on a book! :)
So there you have it. Our bookstore date! It was fun, inexpensive and we felt like we had spent some quality time together. Plus, we still got to watch a movie! Which I love!
*If you want to know more about how to carry out this date, and to get an invitation and task cards (I didn't use them) for the "book search tasks" check out the post HERE on The Dating Divas blog.

FUN! We always love going to the bookstore before/after a movie since it is right next door, but to have an actual date night there? aweseome!
What a fun idea!! Glad you guys had a good time :)
All I could think when I read this post is---she dyed her hair! (you can tell Emily and I are related! ha ha)
Trapper and I did this last night after we ate dinner on our date. It was really fun! We wandered around for awhile, but then I had the idea to look for a book that would teach us a skill. I found a massaging book, so I read that for a little while. Trapper found a book about concealing and carrying arms and being your own gym. We sat next to each other in some chairs and read and shared a few tidbits with each other. We ended up buying the massage book. : ) haha!
